Every week there will be one student that will have the opportunity to be our special student of the week. They will be in the "spotlight" and share some special things about themselves with the class. It is a fun week for the children and it is strongly encouraged that each child participates in each activity.
Here is the note that will be coming home with your child.
MONDAY: Star Student is revealed
Return completed and colored poster and white paper with their name to school, they will be sharing it with their classmates today. Please bring in 6 to 10 pictures to share and display on the bulletin board for the week.
Tuesday: Read Aloud
Students can bring in a favorite picture book or a chapter book. In 3rd and 4th grade, the kids often pick the chapter book option. It is a great way to get the class interested in the book by reading an interesting part of the story. Please make sure it is not longer than 10 to 12 minutes and they have practiced reading it aloud at home.
Wednesday: Parent Letter AND Special Word
This is my favorite day! The parents are asked to write a letter, make a book, or even a poem that tells us more about their child and how special they are to you. The content of the letter is up to you, but you may want to choose from the following ideas:
- Describe special or funny stories about your child for the class to hear.
- Write a silly or serious poem about your child.
- Tell us neat things we may not know about your child.
- Send in silly or special pictures with a letter describing them.
- Write a short story with your child as the main character.
The students need to bring in a “fancy” word. We are asking them to choose a word they may have seen in their reading or a word their friends could use in their writing. Please write the word NEATLY on the sentence strip so it can be displayed in the class. They need to use the word correctly in a sentence and have the definition of the word written on the back of the sentence strip so they can share it with the class.
The star will need to bring in three items from home to share with the rest of the class. Parents, we ask you to please help your child collect three special items from home to share. Students are encouraged to choose items that have some sort of meaning rather than just a collection of toys. These items will hopefully tell us more about him or her. They can stay on the student of the week table all week picture book or a short section from a favorite
Friday: Star Friends
Your star student will be presented with a friendship book created by his or her classmates. It will mostly likely come home on Monday.
Student of the week Schedule was sent home. Please let me know if you need to know your child's date.
